Here are a few stories from the past and how everything started.
Part 1/13
The first story we would like to share during our anniversary month is the following:
In 2008 we were feeding the dogs around the Stupa of Boudhanath. During this time we got to know them closer and all of them had already received a name. (Strubel, Max, Maxime, Blacky, Skinny, Mummy, Boss, Scotty, King Arthur, Dolma, Tara and more)
It was October, the nights were lonely around the stupa and the dogs were the only ones waiting for us to arrive with our red bucket and their food.
At that time, I saw that these dogs were not only hungry, but they were also suffering from skin diseases, injuries and other health problems. These thoughts were the first seeds that gave rise to the idea of helping the street dogs.

Part 2/13
I am happy to share with all of you the exact places where everything started for Street Dog Care.
The first 3 photos show the places where I was doing meditation. Two dogs came to say hello every day or slept next to my place. One was Strubel and the other was Blacky.
In the fourth photo you see the little corner inside the stupa – where I washed for the first time our beloved dog Strubel – that many of you know already.
Thanks to these encounters the first free health camp started in February 2009 to help all the street dogs in Boudhanath. And there began the journey of SDC!
Meditation place inside the Stupa. Strubel on the left and Blacky on the right side of my meditation place. Meditation area inside the Boudhanath Stupa. This is the corner where I washed for the first time our Strubel. There, you can see a small water tap. Only cold ? water! Of course he escaped the following times I wanted to catch him.
The first health camp was a good option to get help to catch him and other dogs for showers. And that’s what we did! This is the corner where I washed for the first time our Strubel. He liked to stay with the people who practiced meditation.
The person sitting there is still today a donor of Street Dog Care. He met Strubel before the first health camp and liked him a lot. Thank you Sandro!!!Strubel, Blacky and the mum!
Part 3/13
These are some pictures of our first Saturday camp – February 7th, 2009.
Not much has changed since that day. We are still working each Saturday at the Stupa to help our 4 legged friends!
Thanks so much to everyone who visited us, brought sick dogs, helped out, volunteered or donated during all these years! You all made this possible and we are very grateful to you!!! Enjoy the photos of the past.
To be continued in the following days…

Part 4/13
In August 2009 we started building our first dog centre. The centre was located near the Kopan Monastery. Here are a few photos while painting our first cages! What beautiful memories.
Part 5/13
This was another wonderful moment in our history of SDC. Ani Choying Drolma held a beautiful benefit concert in Boudhanath in December 2009. Thanks to her we could receive the proceeds of that concert, cash donations and a suitcase full of medications that she had personally brought for the dogs! Thanks Anila. We are very grateful to you and send blessings your way!
Part 6/13
These are some photos of our rabies campaigns in Boudhanath. We started in 2010. Thanks so much to all volunteers and supporters who have been part of this campaign over the past years! Thanks to this our dogs in Boudha are vaccinated and this is also a contribution to the safety of the community.
During our yearly activity of the rabies campaigns, which is held in March, we have been increasing the number of dogs to be vaccinated. This year we like to vaccinate again 1000 dogs in Boudha.
Part 7/13
In 2012 we moved to our second dog centre in Boudhanath. We had many good years there and could help a lot of dogs!
Here are a few photos from the past and we hope you enjoy them.
Many friendships were made and volunteers helped. Thanks to everyone for your kindness!

We also had sad times…our sweet dog and founder Strubel got very sick in August 2016 and left shortly after. We stayed with him during his last days and a funeral was performed in our shelter. A beautiful rainbow appeared at the stupa when he left.
His ashes are preserved in a special urn. We will always love you and remember you! Sweet Strubel!
Part 12/13
Another story from the past! The first photo shows our second dog centre, everything was dismantled and we had moved our cages, roofs and things to the third dog centre (the temporary home for 2017). We felt sad to leave that place but despite the difficulties we were lucky to find a little home where we could keep our oldest and handicapped dogs until a new bigger place would appear. We stayed there till March 2018 when we could move to our new dog centre near Thali.
In 2017 we also opened our main office in Boudhanath (just opposite the old centre). Many of you visited us there already. https://goo.gl/maps/BmGLzyLZszw

This is the last story of the past.
After having passed a real difficult year in 2017, having to move from our dog centre to a temporary place, we finally had better times coming in 2018!
We found a beautiful place to establish a new centre in the countryside. We are very happy in the new location near Thali!
Our daily work continues from our main office in Boudha, that is just located opposite our old Boudha centre. See here: https://goo.gl/maps/uWsK7ahuXKt
Dogs that need special care or hospice will be brought to the new dog centre. We have currently 26 dogs there.
This was a brief account of SDC during the past 10 years. We hope you all enjoyed the small stories and photos!
Let us keep working together, for many more years, to give all beings a better life!
